Happy (?) New Year

Here’s hoping this year will be so much better than last one.  At least the last month of last one.  I really want to get back in my kitchen and cook something.  I know I can’t smell anything, but still I can remember the smells of the things I usually cook, and really miss that pot of beans and the Mexican cornbread that always go with it.  Mmmm, what more can a person ask for than beans and cornbread on a cold, winter day?

I have a new award, sorta.  Since a picture is worth a thousand words, here it is. doncharisma-org-not-on-freshly-pressed-award-4-300x300 doncharisma-org-not-on-freshly-pressed-award-3-300x300I haven’t decided which one to put in my gallery yet, but I think it will be the one with the picture of the presenter, Don Charisma.  Of course, the other one shows up better, but I’ll decide before my next post.  Don is really a great guy, currently living in Thailand, who is now doing great things with stitching photos together to make up really large, breathtaking scenery.  He’s funny, intelligent, and altogether a great guy who created my angel logo for me.  My knight in mostly shining armor.  You really should check out his blog, http://doncharisma.org.  At least I think that’s it.  If not, so sorry Don.  Sinus headache, remember?

Since I can’t go shopping at this time, I have started online shopping at Amazon.  I think I went a bit overboard on a few things there, but since you don’t actually see the product, just a description, you don’t know until it arrives. 004 Just a few days ago I got a call from the office telling me I had a large package downstairs.  Large?  It was about the size of a coffin.  It is still taking up half my living room.  As you can see, I ordered paper towels, also 007 well, that’s more like a photo of the box with the towels at the top.  So, here’s another one.005 A dozen packages of paper plates, and a huge bag of paper bowls.  Since I can’t wash dishes at the moment, I use a lot of paper products.  And last, 006 a dozen boxes of Kleenex, although I only pulled one out because I only needed one opened at the time.  Fortunately there was no shipping fee, since the order was more than $50.  The trash bags and Windex are still to come, and naturally they are the items I needed the most.  Except for the Kleenex, since I somehow caught a head cold without ever leaving the building.  How?  Your guess is as good as mine.  I think if there is half of an allergen floating around the hemisphere it makes it to my nose and takes up residence there.

I’ve pretty much slept thru the past few days.  It’s just too comfortable under the covers to move lately, and I have a lot of lost sleep to make up.  Throw a couple of pain pills a day into the mix, and I’m snoring like, well, a lumberjack?  Or maybe more like Max did.  For such a tiny dog he could beat my dad when it came to snoring.

Well, back to the sinus meds.  Doctor appointment on Friday for results of CAT scan.  To tell the truth, I’m not sure I really want to know.

Sweet Sugar Friday

But not the kind of sugar you think.  This Sugar has four legs 100_2519 and loves to “investigate” everything in my apartment.  She’s visiting me tonigt while her person works.  I love when he brings her up for visits, but tonight he made me promise not to give her any people food.  Sooo, 100_2520 I didn’t give it to her.  She just sorta grabbed it out of my hand.  She was busy gnawing on it when I was getting the camera out, but as soon as she saw the camera she left the chunk of bread on the floor and came over to lick my face.  An apology, I’m sure.  She is a really sweet little dog, and I so much enjoy her visits, but they are so few and far between.  Her person is always afraid she will act up while he’s gone, and drive me nuts.  Too late for that.  I’m already nuts.  Especially nuts about her.

100_2521 Sugar does like to investigate things. Like the canister of sweet cereal I keep on the floor next to the computer, just in case my blood sugar drops while I fighting the never-ending battle with the computer.  I’m not really crazy about the stuff, so it was tasting a bit stale the last time I tried it.  I’ve probably had it two or three years, so I guess that’s not a bad record.  We did watch “The Rifleman” on TV before we came in here though.  Her favorite show.  At least that’s what her person told me.  Sugar didn’t deny the statement, so maybe it’s true.

100_2524 Belly rubs are her favorite things for me to do for her.  So I was taking that  photo left-handed while rubbing her belly with the right one.  It almost takes a contortionist to do that.  But it eventually put her to sleep, so I could get to my email without hurting her feelings.  After all, dogs are people too.

100_2518 Back to the bread I hadn’t picked up yet.  She seemed to enjoy it as much as I did, so at least it didn’t go to waste.  And I didn’t give it to her.  Her teeth are bigger and sharper than mine, so I wasn’t going to fight her over that.  And I also was keeping my word to her person not to “give” her people food.   Never promised I would fight her over it.

100_2522 One of her favorite positions, when she’s not cleaning out my trash. 100_2527 Her absolute favorite place in my apartment.  She is still there, still sleeping soundly, in spite of my coughing.  This is the Greater Ohio River Valley.  Everybody here is coughing and sneezing.  We have the dubious distinction of being the allergy capitol of the world.  Doctors from other parts of the country know about this area.  It’s notorious for capturing all of the pollen in the universe and we all breathe it in and cough and sneeze, and every one has a red nose.

At one time in my life I had a huge closet the size of my present bedroom, and kept it filled with boxes of tissues.  When it got down to twenty boxes I stocked it up again.  I don’t have the room to keep enough to last the winter, but I at least try to keep enough to last a week.  Since I average a large box per day, that means I should buy stock in Kleenex, or whatever company that makes them.

The frost was definitely on the pumpkin this morning, but I have heard that next week will be back in the sixties. Just wonderful.  That’ why I never know what to wear when I go out.  And speaking of pumpkins, I still want to get a couple of cooking pumpkins, so I can  make some of the wonderful pumpkin dishes I love so much.  Pie is my favorite, but soup is good too.  And it would be nice to have some pureed pumpkin in the freezer for later during the winter when they are no longer available.

Sweet dreams.  I’m gonna play with some Sugar. If I can wake her up.
